Hi, Could you please tell me what this drum is? It has the hex bead like the 20th Silv. Ann. model.
Read moreQuestion about a Wilson Brothers snare
I happened upon this 3x13 Wilson Bros steel(?) snare at a free sale. I searched it and the first hit was an NSMD post . Perfect.
The calfskin batter head could be original. The calfskin res head is trash. There’s a snare adjuster but no throw off. The wires are probably functional. There’s probably missing floating lugs but I don't know how many there should be. Except for some dust this is how I got it.
You’ve always been a good source of info. What’s your take on this thing?
NSMD is my favorite email. I read it cover to cover.
Thanks in advance for any any info you can pass my way.
What's this worth? Leedy & Ludwig vintage kit
and more information about a Leedy and Ludwig drum set that I have. I have a few pictures I can forward to you that might help. It has a beautiful hand painted windmill scene painted on the bass drum. I believe it is from the 1930s belonging to my grandfather, I have a picture of him sitting at it. Very special.

The instruments are then distributed to underprivileged children and lower income school music programs that don't have them in their budget. You can visit their web site at www.playitforwardstl.org.

Mystery Drum
Hello
I came across your website while searching information on an old drum and I thought maybe you could help us finding out information about it. There is no label on the drum. I would like to find out when this drum was made, possible by which company. Since it came to us from a good friend, we would like to to get to know about it...I attached some pictures.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Chidori Matsumoto

"My Dad's kit is stamped 1957 (snare); the added floor is stamped 1962 and is the only one with chrome plated hoops. It is really close to mint condition with original heads also in great shape. The other three pieces are in excellent condition as well - the sizes are so interesting. I found a 1957 WFL catalog and don't see the snare or tom sizes listed!Dad said his Dad took him to Biascos Music store for his 14th birthday. Dad was born in 43 so that adds up."

This is about the best recent shot of my Leedys. The shells are a little more yellowed than this picture shows—too many times playing in smoky places. Our band broke up last week. Our leader (sax) died suddenly. It’s hard to find older guys who can play the forties music—or just play at all. Not quite ready to sell yet. As you can see, I keep white heads on them. Black or transparent heads just would not look right on them. The front head on the bass is original cowhide with my shield and bars with my initials, ala Krupa and Rich.
I’ve played some drums with plastic shells and some electronic—just don’t sound right.

WIW? Ludwig Imperials?
Got something that you want to ask the community what’s it worth? Send it in and we’ll post it here. – NSMD NSMD,
I am very interested in purchasing a drum but I'm not certain who made it. I consider myself to have decent vintage knowledge but not after seeing this one. The shell has no name or stamp on it what so ever. Also very strange is that there is no center bead in the shell. It has no extra holes drilled in it. The lugs appear to be late 30's Ludwig Imperials. The strainer also looks to be Ludwig, later 20's to early 30's. There is a welded seam on the interior of the shell. Can you please help or give me an idea of what type of shell it might be.
Thanks, Lance

WIW? 40-50s Leedy Ludwig Kit
Got something that you want to ask the community what’s it worth? Send it in and we’ll post it here. – NSMD
Hello-
Here's an entry for What's It Worth: my uncle's old 40's-50's kit. Leedy Ludwig 20"bass and 13" tom. Not sure of franken-snare, has Leedy lugs, new bottom rim and snare throw off. I'm not a restorer, but I did get them player ready. Bass and mounted tom seem to be original, floor tom is his old high school marching drum recovered for tom use. I do have everything to make it back into the original marching share. All original Leedy hi-hat with 14" Zildjian cymbals. Leedy Ludwig bass drum pedal, with a clamp for mounted tom and clamp-on cymbal - older with 16" Zildjian crash-ride. No extra holes for tom or cymbal mounts. This what he was using until he bought his brand new set of '58 Gretsch Drums. They play and sound great. I know its hard to put a value on this unseen but they are in good -very good condition.
Thanks, Ronnie
