From The Editor

I was overwhelmed with the generosity of you subscribers who donated to NSMD during the first annual fund drive this past month. I haven’t totaled it up yet but it was well over $1500 and perhaps closer to $2000, which should keep the lights and the internet faucet on for a few months. Thank you so much for helping preserve the history of the snare drum and drum set, and the legacy of legendary drummers.

That was the first time that I begged all subscribers and unsubscribed readers to donate at least $12 to the cause. I felt like an announcer on a public radio or public tv fundraiser marathon! Maybe next year I should offer the complete CD Rom of The History of the Drum Set film narrated by Morgan Freeman to premium donors! (That doesn’t exist) but I’ll have to tell you someday about the trip to Washington DC that Joe Partridge and I made to meet with a museum consultant about opening a brick and mortar Vintage Drum Museum in Nashville. We got as far as finding out that we’d have to constantly dress up and host rubber chicken dinners to beg money from the upper crust, find a million dollars to buy a building and produce a PBS type documentary film, and learn the tourism business. That was a good stopping point.

Requests have been made to slow progression of the slide show pictures at the top of the articles. They had been set at 5 seconds for each image. Starting this month, I will set them to ten seconds each which is the maximum allowed by the Squarespace site that NSMD is sitting on. I’m not planning on resetting that rate on any past articles but will do so if there is a particular article that a subscriber asks for. I can also start adding a couple of stills in every article from this point on if y’all think that’s a good idea.

Now, y’all go practice - George Lawrence
