A few things to announce:
*The flow of submitted articles was slow this month. Our writers contribute for free and are not obligated to write for every issue, though some like to maintain regular monthly columns. So, we can always use more regular and occasional writers. If you post info and/or pictures on Facebook or drum forums about vintage drums, custom drums, legendary drummers, drum repair, book and CD reviews, or anything related to our niche, please consider posting it here as well. If you are interested in writing for Not So Modern Drummer please contact me george@notsomoderndrummer.com
*I am taking “pre-pre-orders” for my book “Life’s Little Drumming Lessons” which is coming together nicely. I’m at the end of the writing and editing stages, and starting on engraving it in MuseScore notation software. The book was written over thirty years and includes my numerous instruction handouts to students, instruction, “int the trenches” stories from my column in NSMD, advice and tips to beginning and working drummers, and the core content of my two prior books, Sticking Theory and Nashville Number System for Drummers. It will be available in print and as printable downloads. Videos of the instruction chapters are in the works was well. Send me an email if you want to be on the list to buy this book when it becomes available. george@notsomoderndrummer.com
*The back issues of NSMD are starting to run low, so now is the time to buy before we run out of more and more of the individual issues. We started with 31 issues in the collection around 2010 and are now down to 28 issues. There are varying amounts in stock of each issue. Some are over 1000 and some are getting down to the last box or less. The collection still sells for “pandemic pricing”, - $63 including the shipping. That will go back up to around $99 in the not too distant future; another good reason to buy the collection now. *Ashley Wardell is doing some research on Joe Morello and would like to get in contact with any of his former students who are willing to discuss their experiences with Mr. Morello. You can reach Ashley at ashley.wardell@ntlworld.com
*A regular question I get is about out of production Premier Royal Ace double ten snare wires. I have no source for these, whether new old stock, used or reproductions. If anyone has any info about this please let me know.
*I offer three levels of appraisals of drums, cymbals and other percussion instruments
1. FREE - at DrumSellers.com in the Members Forum category, you can list your item(s) in the “What’s it Worth?” sub category. Members will offer their opinions, usually based on comparables. Not So Modern Drummer does not guarantee members’ appraisals.
2. $30 - Quick email appraisal of one item; drum set, snare drum, cymbal, etc. - Includes links to comparables (if any) and my estimate of value.
3. $200 - Full written appraisal of your single instrument or collection of instruments, drum sets, snare drums, cymbals. Emailed or printed and mailed copy of itemized list with pictures and links to comparables. Items can be individually appraised or grouped. This is based on 4 hours of work. Excessive lists of items will be billed in additional hours.
4. $250 - Insurance appraisal, notarized. Same as #3 with Tennessee Notarial Certificate.
Call George Lawrence 330 338 6035 to discuss details.
