Hi all,
Here’s another one that I have had since the early days of my collecting but have never done an article on. You can see this drum on pages 86-87 in my book: VINTAGE SNARE DRUMS THE CUROTTO COLLECTION. I got this drum from The Starving Musician in Santa Clara, CA. Early on in my snare drum collecting and before EBay I developed a great relationship with Dave Lovvorn, long time manager of the Santa Clara Starving Musician store. These were great times, I would pull up in my van with a butt-load of drums and parts and Dave would open the store early so we could get started with our horse trading. From time to time Dave would allow me to buy a snare drum from their “top shelf”. In this case I remember that this drum was a birthday/Xmas present to myself. Great times from years past.
1926-27 LUDWIG & LUDWIG 5 x 14 NOB/12 pt. FLORAL ENGRAVED DeLUXE SUPER-LUDWIG MODEL
I think that this drum could have possibly been an un-cataloged special order. Everything points to a mid-1920s L & L DeLuxe snare drum (black nickel plating, 12 pt. floral engraving and DeLuxe copper plated/gold lacquered hardware) with the exception that the shell is nickel plated with the 12 pt. floral engraving showing through. I chose to leave the hardware as-is on this one. I also left the modern day heads on the drum as I liked the aesthetics of this. Not much more to say here so enjoy the photos. As always, I look forward to your comments.
