Okay, I’m going to use a term that I don’t like to use and seldom do. MUSEUM QUALITY.
But that’s not all, this set is so much more, I’ll explain. This is the type of set I would normally never even blink twice at, after all it’s the most common size drums sold as a set in the recent history of modern era vintage drums in the U.S.A.. Luckily for me something caught my eye and I investigated a little further.
Where to begin.
This set was born together and still with the one and only original owner whose parents purchased it for him brand spanking new in 1970. He played it for about a year with his cousin in a little band in his basement and never again after that. The set NEVER left his house and was NEVER played out. He also immaculately cared for it keeping it under cover.
Let’s talk about the set in detail.
ALL the heads are original and have never been off the set. Only the snare, floor and toms show marks on the batter heads. Both bass heads, the snare side head and all other resonant heads are pristine!
All 5 of the Blue & Olive pointy badges are the rare NO SERIAL number editions made only in 1970, and they are all in immaculate condition. The wrap on all drums is absolutely pristine. All chrome is in mint condition with not even a speck of pitting or rust. All hardware is also perfect. The stands still retain the original stickers, felts and rubber feet.
Here’s one of the craziest facts, he only used one pair of wood sticks on this set, EVER, never broke them and gave them to me with the set. They are vintage Regal Tip Model 7A Nylon Tip, and they look new as well!
Look at that wild “Dewey Co.” square-top throne! The speed-king pedal beater and bass head, remarkable!
He added the matching Conga drum in the early 1970s and it is also unadulterated.
To top it off it came with all the original vintage Zildjian cymbals including a rare 24” ride, a 20” ride/crash and a pair of 14” hi-hats.
The wrap on all drums is the exact same shade of color on every drum everywhere.
This set is truly museum showroom quality, and I can assure you I’ve never seen its equivalent.
I am thrilled to own it at the moment but will probably move it on to another drummer who will appreciate it as much as I do.
Thank you for reading my work!
Stay tuned…
