This is a recent acquisition from Ting Tinpoti through this very site, NSMD! and DrumSellers.com
This was Carlton's flagship snare in the 1930s. It is chrome over brass 6& 1/2" x 14". From Mike Curotto: Internally the top mechanism is just like a Ludwig Super-Sensitive and a Leedy Dual but the internal “parallel” mechanism is quite different. Externally the top linkages are similar to a Leedy Dual. Externally the bottom parallel mechanism is vastly different vs. the Ludwig Super-Sensitive and Leedy Dual models. The shell is drilled for 8 lugs like a Leedy of the same era.
The drum has that 30s era quality brass sound and the silk wires give it that dry orchestra sound. The top wires make it very dry and totally dampen the ring/sustain. They actually sound better than the to wires of either the 20s Ludwig Super Sensitive or the 30s Leedy Dual (both 6&1/2 x14) that I also own.
