Welcome to the Drum History Podcast! I am very excited and honored that "Not So Modern Drummer" has featured my podcast and that I can share it with you -my fellow vintage drum enthusiasts. Many of the contributors to this great publication are guests on the show. If you are a fan of "Not So Modern Drummer," I think you will love Drum History. This episode features Kelli Rae Tubbs and was the very first episode of the Podcast. It spotlights the fascinating era of silent movie drummers of the early 1900s. These "Trap" drummers used a wide variety of nonconventional instruments to create the sounds that you "saw" on screen. Gunshots, rain, and revving engines are just a few examples of sounds these drummers created. We learn that this was the predominant source of income for 10,000 plus drummers in the country. This suddenly changed with the advent of "Talkies" in 1927, putting all of these drummers out of work. Enjoy this episode and check out new weekly episodes anywhere you find podcasts.
