Terry Silverlight
Terry Silverlight began his career at the age of fourteen, playing drums and composing music in the pioneering jazz/rock fusion group Barry Miles and Silverlight and later attended Princeton University. He is the author of The Featured Drummer and co-author of the Stick Bag of Jazz, Funk, Fusion and Gig Bag Series for Drummers. He is comfortable with a wide variety of styles and has played on a number of platinum and gold recordings.
His drumming credits include work with Billy Ocean, George Benson, Natalie Merchant, Roberta Flack, Tom Jones, Stephanie Mills, Laura Nyro, Anne Murray and diverse artists such as Mel Torme, Phil Woods, Fania All-Stars, Steven Stills and the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra.
His solo albums feature his talents as drummer, composer and producer, with guest appearances by Paul Shaffer, Will Lee, Edgar Winter, among other artists. His original music has been used in a variety of settings, including TV shows The Sopranos, The Young and the Restless, Smash and C.S.I., feature films including Invincible, Head Over Heels, Sunshine Cleaning and Mad About Mambo, jingles for diverse products, recordings for Nancy Wilson, Carl Anderson, Philip Ingram and penned a platinum hit song for the artist Louise.
Morris ‘Arnie’ Lang
Arnie Lang has had a career progressing from a club-date drummer in the Romanian Gardens in the Bronx, to five years in the Borsht Belt in the Catskill Mountains, to the City Ballet Orchestra and finally to 40 years in the New York Philharmonic as Percussionist/Associate Timpanist to Saul Goodman.
He has students all over the world from Brooklyn College, Manhattan School and Lehman College. As the head of Percussion at Brooklyn College, for 20+ years, he created an international exchange program with Richard O’Donnell and the Royal Irish Academy of Music that is ongoing to this day, over 20 years strong.
When he retired from the NY Philharmonic, he had played over 5000 concerts, numerous TV shows and recordings. He has written 10 books and pieces and one solo video, and recorded much of the solo literature for percussion over the years, including the premiere recording of Elliot Carter’s “Eight Pieces for Timpani”, along with works by Chavez, Varese, and Stravinsky.
He currently runs Lang Percussion, producing world-class drums used by artists and orchestras all over the world.
