Gretsch drums are some of my very favorite sets to collect and play. The first drum set I actually owned was a 1960s Gretsch kit. It was a beautiful Aqua Satin Flame double bass set. I have owned several Gretsch kits in my collection over the years and currently have a few beautiful Gretsch sets which I highly treasure. Which leads me to the set I want to show you today from my collection. The drum kit I am featuring this month is a Round Badge 1960s Gretsch Rock and Roll set. The catalog number for this type of set is 4027. The kit includes a 20"X14" bass drum, two 12"X8" mounted toms, 16"X16" floor tom, and a matching 14''X5" snare. The wrap is a stunning blue glass glitter. The hoops are die cast and the interiors are silver.
I was fortunate to buy this set from my friend Ron Burns. We have been drum trading friends for quite a while now. He has bought a few sets from me and I have in turn bought sets from him. He wanted a Gretsch set to play some gigs and bought this set from someone else. We discussed the deal and I thought he should buy them. He sold me a set to get the money to buy this set. He also got a 14" floor tom in the deal. The set didn't work for him because the 20" bass drum didn't please him. Before long he gave me the opportunity to buy these drums. He had sold the 14" floor tom. The matching snare is really a treasure. A lot of these kits came with a chrome snare. I really like the small bass drum. The two 12" toms can be tuned differently to make a great sound. The blue glass glitter wrap is very beautiful.
