ED TOTH
The Sung-Unsung Hero for this month is Doobie Brothers drummer Ed Toth.
Connecticut born drummer Toth developed a love of the drums at an early age. In 1994, Ed received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, and throughout the years, has played with many different bands encompassing a wide range of musical styles. Most notable of those bands was Vertical Horizon who Ed teamed up with in 1996. They will be celebrating 30 years together in 2021.
Toth left Vertical Horizon in 2005, and was recruited to replace Doobies drummer Keith Knudson, after his untimely death from pneumonia, along side Michael Hossack and then Tony Pia. When Pia left the band, The Doobie Brothers kept Toth on as the sole drummer.
Among the long list of drummers who have influenced Ed, are Stewart Copeland, the late Neil Peart and Bill Bruford.
Ed plays DW drums and Zildjian cymbals.
