This month’s Unsung Hero is quite likely someone you have never heard of before. He is Atlanta based drummer, Jack Jones, and if you have ever watched Rick Beato’s YouTube videos, such as “Top 20 Drum Intros of All Time” or “20 Greatest Drum Fills of All Time”, Jack is the man behind the kit recreating all those intros and fills to perfection.
Jack’s earliest education came from sitting in with his father’s bands from the age of 10. He was playing jazz, blues, and rock gigs in North Louisiana, as full-time profession by the age of 19.
Jack has been performing and teaching for more than 25 years. He has a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University.
Jack gravitates heavily toward jazz with the “Mike Veal Band”. Jones has said, “I don’t really think of myself as just a drummer”, he also spends a lot of his spare time practicing other instruments such as piano, guitar and clarinet.
Jack plays Gretsch drums and Zildjian cymbals.
