Hi all,
Well, Mark Cooper comes through again with this excellent example of a Silver Sparkle Model Hollywood Ace Radio King. Mark finds a lot of Radio Kings that are always in very good-excellent condition. This one will be added to the “Mark Cooper” wing of the Curotto Collection.
1939-41 SLINGERLAND 7 x 14 SILVER SPARKLE HOLLYWOOD ACE MODEL RADIO KING
THE SHELL:
The Silver Sparkle wrap was very clean but I still gave it a once-over with some cleaning/polishing. The solid maple shell interior is very clean with a tight badge grommet.
THE HARDWARE:
All of the hardware is 100% original to the drum. The nickel plated hardware is also in great shape and needed no extensive cleaning or polishing except for the tension rods.
The original wire snares are clean and straight which is always a bonus with these old Radio Kings. The snare gates are the screwed-on type and the “manufacturer’s cartouche” markings are not present on these rims/gates which leaves me to suspect two scenarios: 1. This marking practice was phased out in the Radio King-era (1936 –)... 2. This may have been an accidental omission at the factory. Feel free to weigh-in on this.
Of-the-era calf heads rounded out this cleaning.
Enjoy!
