I played some gigs with Mose Allison in the late eighties and early nineties. On the first gig at sound check I was having a hard time understanding how he wanted me to approach his music on the drums. I asked him later who his favorite drummer was and he said, "There's this guy in San Fransisco - George Marsh". I found some footage of George and that explained everything. Flow is the word I used to describe his approach. George is a very influential drummer and teacher who is admired and revered by many famous drummers. His methodology is his own and this book explains how he sees awareness of and the movement of the body as part of the sound of the instrument. I have not spent enough time with the book to give it a clear explanation so I have decided to let George explain and demonstrate via a video I found online. Mr. Marsh is a very relaaaaaaaxed player and that alone should be motivation to buy his book and explore his method and philosophy. Here is a video of George with the David Grisman Sextet playing several different styles.
