Contact me for private lessons at 330 338 6035 or email me at george@notsomoderndrummer.com. I teach at at Memphis Drum Shop and at my home in East Memphis. Lessons cost $30 per half hour, and $60 per hour. Grade school and college students usually take half hour lessons. Lessons are paid for at the first of each month in advance, usually $120 for four lessons. I accept checks, cash, paypal, venmo and cashapp. I have a short policy contract that each student and parent is required to read and agree to.

I teach grade school and adult beginner students to play the snare drum and the drum set by teaching them how to read drum music, to write drum music, and to perform drum music. I prepare them to be professional drummers whether that is their goal or not. This is the legitimate way to learn drumming. There are several standard instruction books that I use and I will advise you which ones to buy.

Songs are the drum set drummer’s stock in trade. I like for the student to constantly work on learning to play new songs and we will play those during lesson time. They can be songs that the student likes in any genre of music or I also have a list of many classic songs and play along recordings that can be assigned. There is usually a recital at the end of the year where the student plays a song with a band or play-along recording. I also help students with school music assignments and other performance music outside of my assignments.

Attendance: Grade school students are expected to attend at their weekly appointment time, except during some major holidays. Students/parents should let me know at the first of the month of any planned absences. A minimum of 24 hours notice must be given for last minute absences so I can schedule another student in that time slot. If adequate notice is not given, then payment for that lesson will be forfeited and no make up lesson scheduled, except in the case of sudden illness. “No shows” are automatic forfeiture of the payment as well. I usually send out a reminder text each week to all students.

Instruments: The student must have an instrument to practice. I can advise as to which one to acquire.

I teach many professional and semi-professional drummers on a weekly or by appointment basis. Adult and professional student lessons are usually sixty minutes long and can be paid for per lesson. Please call to schedule or make an appointment.
