Straight from the fertile waters of Ebay...another weird one enters the collection. I have only seen four 4 x 14 Tone Flange Models. A few months ago I saw a suitcase drum set in one of the drummer magazines and decided to make one for myself. It was really fun to build out of stuff I mostly already had. As we musicians know our ears are the most important piece of "gear" we have and to protect them goes without saying. I've had numerous pairs of the custom molded earplugs and had mixed results with them; some of them would "lose their seal" when I would move my jaw and as a result I quit spending $200 a pop on those and opted for the standard "ER-15" style earplugs, the kinds that look like small rubber bullets.
In my quest for simplifying the various accessories in my life that I must carry around (phone, handsfree headset, wallet, keys, etc...)I fantasized about having a set of earplugs that would serve a multifunctional purpose of being the wireless headset; earbuds that I could listen through if you will. Well lo and behold, I ran into the nice people at Entymotic Research while at the 2013 NAMM show and they have several makes of headset that "fit this Bill" just perfectly.

The Chicago Drum & Restoration Ltd. drum company specializes in all things Slingerland old and new. This small but productive company has begun to manufacture two new series of drums that are Slingerland reproductions in spirit; the American Classic and the American Heritage. Both are produced using the Nile factory era type shell with steam bent solid maple 3 ply reinforcement rings. The interiors are finished with tung oil. The bearing edges are 30 degrees with a round-over. The snares are 5 ply shells while the basses and toms are 3 ply. The difference between the two series are in the shell wood types, the lugs and the hoops. The American Heritage shell is mahogany and poplar with tube lugs and a single flange hoop with clips. The American Classic shell is maple and mahogany with beaver tail lugs and stick saver hoops. Both models are available in classic wrap colors. A three point reproduction strainer is standard, and the oval black and silver badge is very Niles-ish. Pure sound snare wires are standard.
